No BlackBerry on WiMax

Several online tech rumor mills are reporting the latest buzz on Sprint and BlackBerry. Specifically, the rumor is that Sprint has decided against putting a BlackBerry Playbook device on its 4G WiMax network. The carrier already offers a version of the tablet that runs on WiFi connections.

Sprint had said publicly back in January that it was planning to release a 4G Playbook sometime this fall. However, since that time the Playbook has received mixed reviews. Some customers love it, but others see it as coming up short compared to the iPad because of its lack of apps, and because it required a BlackBerry phone in the vicinity to perform certain functions. Perhaps for these reasons and others, Sprint is now backing away from its plans for a 4G Playbook.
